Logan

Logan Lerman

Can one year show a trend? Maybe, but probably not. Following a slow but steady rise in popularity, the name Logan (from the Gaelic "dweller at a little hollow") has reached number 17 in the list of the most popular boys' names in the US in 2007. Then, last year, it moved back two places to number 19.

Does it mean the name has reached the peak of popularity, and will now begin its descent into obscurity? Or will it move up again next year? Is it a name that has been popular only until parents have made it too popular? Or is it on its way to becoming a classic boy (and girl) name?

These are some points worth considering, but as with many other popular names, the popularity of Logan may depend on the popularity of rising actors with those names, or even with the popularity of movies and books that have a character named Logan.

2009 Update:
Logan moved back up to number 17, a position it held in 2007.

2010 Update:
No change. Logan is still at number 17.
