David
Moving down from number 12 to number 14, the name David doesn't seem to be in danger of disappearing any time soon. The name has been in and out of the top 10 most popular boys' names for over 80 years, and a small decline in popularity could also mean the name has been overused and that it will reappear in the top 10 list soon enough.
The name, which means "Beloved," originates in the biblical story of the Jewish king who succeeded Saul after killing Goliath. According to the New Testament, Jesus was a descendant of King David.
Although the name David appears "as-is" in many languages, including Hebrew, French, German, and others, there are many popular variations in other languages, such as the Arabic Daud, the English Davin (Davina for females), the Welsh Dewey, and many others.
